One Year Three Months Later

February 2, 2015

Jim found a white mouth sore on the inside of his right cheek. It actually looked like what a canker sore might look like. It did not hurt, but rather he could feel it with his tongue. He noticed it for about two weeks before he said anything. He finally called the doctor to make an appointment. (at first he just wanted to wait until his normal check-up appointment, which was still a good month away) He went in for a biopsy and had the scope put down his nose and throat. No sign of anything through the scope. His ENT didn’t feel the white spot was anything to worry about either. Two days later pathology came back clean!

Because of having a dry mouth, Jim did bite the inside of his mouth while eating a few weeks ago, which caused bleeding. The doctor felt this sore was most likely from that action. She told Jim she doesn’t need to see him again for four months! Jim is now trying to take his saliva pills (pilocarpine) at least three times a day to help out with dry mouth.

***update 1/2016 Jim does not take the saliva pills anymore.  He does not like the way they make him feel. He thinks the side affects make him feel sweaty, muscle cramps and do not improve the quality of saliva.  He carries water and gum with him wherever he goes.
